Let me introduce myself to you…
Traditionally, bios are dry, boring and either written by some third party contributor who is attempting to pen something clever, or it is written by the author themselves in the third person. I am going to ‘buck the system' and tell you a little bit about myself - personally.
...This is simply who I am.
I was born on February 20 in the Miniature Metropolis of Colorado Springs, Colorado, where I spent my youth on my parent’s Arabian Horse Ranch. It consisted of National Arabian Show horses and wildly exciting high-caliber racehorses. Both of my parents are successful individual business owners, and they continue to be the greatest mentors I have ever had.
My father is responsible for interesting me in communication and leadership, since it is something he too is passionate about and has taught classes on both subjects.
While I have been studying the topics for many years, I hate it when people call me an expert. Why? Read my blog on the topic here
In high school, like any red-blooded American male, I played sports - football and baseball. In addition, like every other athlete, I had fantasies of playing in the professional rankings. Not really – reality struck when I discovered that neither professional association had any open positions for an 'serverely undersized' player. So, I swallowed my disappointment and moved on to college.
I initially enrolled at Western State College of the Gunnison, located only a short hitchhike from Mt. Crested Butte, North America’s premier extreme ski resort. We had a motto at Western State, “Get a degree in skiing, while taking a few classes on the side.” After a year, I transferred to Colorado State University, where I graduated and majored in Speech Communication.
Since college, I was a professionally sponsored wakeboarder, entertained listeners in the broadcasting industry, been employed by a Fortune 50 company, consulted/founded small businesses, written a book, enjoy being a community volunteer, and most notably being a member of an outstanding family. Everyday is a learning opportunity for me and when people ask me, “What I believe to be my greatest accomplishment?” To steal a remarkably profound quote from Sir Winston Churchill, I answer, “My greatest accomplishment was my ability to persuade my wife to marry me!”
What I have discovered thoughout all of this is that I can do three things very well. They are my strengths, and they are how I operate and manange my life: I can Communicate, Lead, and Teach. Armed with this knowledge, it is my desire to live a life filled with purpose and passion.
On September 20, 2003, I married my best friend, and love of my life, Robin. We were married at the base of the mountain where we first met. We now reside in Parker, Colorado with our Newborn daughter, Alexis (Lexi), and enjoy the fashionably active lifestyle that Colorado offers.
